In the private Personal Trainer world in 2018, having an app to offer to your clients is important. But building your own custom app can be very expensive with many updates and upgrades likely needed down the line.

While I would love to have full creative control over the look and feel of my own app (shocker), really I just needed the ability to provide my own programming in an easy-to-deliver format to my clients. Enter Trainerize.

Trainerize is a fitness app company that allows you as the coach to enter custom programs for your clients, upload your own videos (or link to any available ones on YouTube), and provides 1-on-1 messaging within the app.

This functionality was perfect for what I needed, but I had a few questions and suggestions, so I reached out as I typically do with a detailed list. In this instance my curiosity paid off. They were rolling out a new white-label process (i.e. custom branding), and needed real users to test it and provide feedback. In exchange for testing they would provide an app with custom branding for free! As this would save me thousands of dollars, I immediately agreed.

Once we completed testing, I needed to provide a custom home screen image, a color scheme, and an app logo design. Since I knew I’d be rolling out a custom program, I recruited Sean into helping me film and edit over 100 fitness videos. We rented out a gym space and spent the better part of a day capturing all of our content. In addition to the videos, we also took still images to be used within the app. I also created a custom landing page on Squarespace with easy sign-up features, and an intro packet PDF that was attached to each client profile.

All in all I would highly recommend Trainerize if you are a personal trainer looking to offer a fitness app. You’ll be able to either create a set-it-and-forget-it program, or you can customize each client account. But the ability to offer an app that your clients can download will help to set you apart in a very crowded industry.
