Uncanny Valley - by Anna Wiener

After reading Educated, I stayed in the memoir genre, and this book did not disappoint. Anna writes about her experience working in Silicon Valley after graduating, during the peak of VC start-up explosions in the 2008-2014 era. She details what it was like being a female in that world, and also what the mostly toxic start-up culture of “you sleep when you’re dead” mentality was like.

I deeply related to a lot of her experiences, as I went to work on Wall Street right before the crash in 2008. When I started it felt like money grew on trees, and that anyone in finance was a master of the universe. I was also in the minority popuation as a women, and had to endure all that entailed in a pre-”me too” society.

All in all a highly entertaining read, recommend!
